Representative Angela Witwer expressed support for a measure that grants tax breaks to Michiganders.
House Bill 4490, sponsored by Rep. Witwer, would get rid of the retirement tax, instituted in 2011.
“The retirement tax has left retirees worried about being able to afford their necessities after a lifetime of hard work,” said Rep. Witwer.
Rep. Witwer has also come out in support of House Bill 4986, which calls for restoring the Earned Income Tax Credit. The EITC can be used by Michiganders who receive a W-2 and has been called “one of the most effective anti-poverty measures in history…it would lift 22,000 people out of poverty and send 730,000 families an average refund of around $3,000.”
Taxes on working families and seniors are “an unexpected and unnecessary burden,” said Rep. Witwer, who is serving her second term in the House.
