$800. That’s the amount of money Americans were able to keep in their pockets by signing up for healthcare on the Health Insurance Marketplace, according to a new report, thanks to savings created by last year’s American Rescue Plan.

More than 303,000 Michigan residents enrolled in a Marketplace plan this open enrollment period, a 14 percent increase over last year. They’re part of a nationwide trend that saw 14.5 million Americans enroll in health insurance via federal and state marketplaces in the last year.

At the close of this year’s open enrollment period, 5.8 million more Americans have health insurance today than they did one year ago – a stark contrast to recent years. Between 2016 and 2019, by comparison, 3.6 million Americans lost insurance coverage. As a result of these gains, one in seven uninsured Americans now has coverage.
