A new report shows that President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better plan includes clean energy investments that would boost economic development and help make the U.S. energy independent.

Under the framework described in the report, Biden’s plan ensures that clean energy technology will be built in the U.S. with American-made materials, taking advantage of an unprecedented opportunity to add hundreds of thousands of new jobs, boosting American competitiveness, strengthening supply chains, and revitalizing U.S. manufacturing.

According to the report, Biden’s plan would invest in growing sectors such as solar and wind power, as well as institute grants, loans, tax credits, and procurement requirements to support U.S. manufacturers of the steel, cement, aluminum, and other supplies needed to build clean energy technology. On top of the expected employment growth that would result from those measures, the plan would also establish a Civilian Climate Corps that would create 300,000 good-paying jobs in areas like land conservation and bolstering community resilience.

In addition to growing the economy, Biden’s investments in clean energy technology aim to help the U.S. achieve energy independence by building up domestic power supply to be used as an alternative to foreign oil. The need for American energy independence has been highlighted in recent months as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused disruptions in the global oil market that have led to skyrocketing gas prices in the U.S.
