Beyoncé has received 9 Grammy nominations this year making her the most nominated artist, tying her husband Jay-Z with 88 nominations each, the AP reported.

Her song “Break My Soul” received record and song of the year nominations while “Renaissance” – Beyoncé’s contribution to the world of dancehall music – received a nomination for best album of the year. Also, for the first time in her career, Beyoncé was nominated in the dance category.

Should she win 4 Grammys, Beyoncé, who is already the most decorated woman in Grammy history with 28 wins, would break Georg Solti’s record for most awards won at 31.

Nearly half of this year’s leading nominees are women and more than half are people of color, the recording academy stated. Harvey Mason jr., the Recording Academy’s CEO stated he was proud of the strides in the peer-driven voting system and increased membership, steps that were taken to respond to criticism of the Grammys’ poor representation. Moreover, he stated that it was his priority to earn back trust from the music community including from Drake and The Weeknd, artists who have felt snubbed and are unwilling to submit any of their music.

The academy added new categories including a song for social change and five other categories including songwriter of the year, which, according to Harvey, will help to further diversify the annual awards
